Queen’s Feast: The Liberty

My trip to Charlotte this past weekend as been “on the books” for quite some time now (months, maybe).  But I sure did plan this weekend perfectly.  It just so happens that Queen’s Feast fell on the weekend that I’d be gracing Charlotte with my presence.  Charlotte is not lacking in fantastic restaurants and one thing I love about going home (the number uno reason is seeing family) is trying new restaurants.  We decided to try out The Liberty on Saturday evening.

The above is the menu that was posted on the Queen’s Feast website.  There were a few changes once we arrived but I thoroughly enjoyed my meal.  We ended up being seated in the bar area – if we could rewind, we would have waited for a table in the dining room area.  But where we were sitting didn’t change the way the food tasted.  You could tell that the waitress was a little overwhelmed – she had tables inside and outside and the place was busy.  Having worked in the restaurant world waiting tables at one point in my life, I know that it happens.

We started with the boiled peanuts!  We call these “goobers” in the Bell household.

For my small plate, I chose the Heirloom Tomato Salad.  Sweet heirloom tomatoes were paired with rip melons (honeydew, cantaloupe and watermelon) and complimented with arugula, salty feta and buttery avocado.  On top of the salad stack, Serrano ham (I think).

 

Not only was it pretty but it was tasty.  I ate every.single.bite.

And for dinner, I chose the Seafood Boil.  Typically I would have gone for the salmon but I wanted to do something different.  Sweet clams and mussels paired with huge shrimp, potatoes, sausage and corn.  I was looking forward to the crab stuffed mushrooms but they were no where in sight.

All the seafood was divine.  I love seafood.  Love love love it.  But one of the best bites of the bowl was the corn on the cob.  All of the flavors in the bowl had soaked into the corn making for quite the bite.

And for dessert, the whole table split one of each.  I can’t choose a favorite.  But I will say that the lemon dessert in the mason reminded me of a Girl Scout cookie and I loved it.

I’m so thankful that my family loves to experience food with me – Big Guy, you were missed!
